Dragon boat team puts the paddle to the medal

by members of the University of Waterloo Dragon Boat Club

Dragon Boat teams pose for group photo. It was a successful medal haul for Waterloo’s dragon boat teams this past weekend as they competed in the 25th Annual Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival.

Over 85 students, future uWaterloo students, alumni and staff joined forces to represent the University of Waterloo against some of the highest ranked dragon boat teams in the world.

Coached and mentored by uWaterloo students and dragon boat gurus Ricky Tjandra, Evan Trafford and Vladimir Kluev, every team competing medalled in their respective categories. It was also the first time that a uWaterloo staff/alumni dragon boat was entered.

“We are very proud to be associated with this wonderful group of students”, says Linda McKessock, whose opinion is clearly echoed by fellow staff team and alumni members pictured below, “They are amazing ambassadors of the sport, sportsmanship and teamwork. Their enthusiasm for dragon boating is absolutely contagious.”
