Wednesday, December 8, 1993 DAY OF MEETINGS: The faculty association and staff association will both hold their annual general meetings this afternoon. Staff association: 3:30 p.m., Davis Centre 1350. The meeting will hear reports from 1993's president, Linda Norton, and other members of the executive. Faculty association: 2:30 p.m., Physics 145. Annual reports are also on the agenda. The membership committee notes that the association had 602 members as of October, down from 610 a year ago, and includes 70.1 per cent of eligible professors. "Over the past two years there has been an increase in Engineering (from about 60% to 68%) but this has been offset by decreases in Mathematics (57% to 52%) and Science (82% to 76%)." ADESTE FIDELES: The annual Christmas concert in the great hall of the Davis Centre is set for 12:15 today. Organizers from the music department at Conrad Grebel College are sending thanks to everybody from the president's office to the plant operations department (for turning off the noisy fans and making other physical arrangements) and the usual occupants of the Davis Centre. Now all they need is an audience, on the floor of the great hall and the surrounding balconies. GIFT ANNOUNCEMENT: Coming at 2 this afternoon is a cheque presentation to Campaign Waterloo from Royal Trust. The ceremony is happening at the Westmount Golf and Country Club; no other details have been announced yet. SEEKING A BOOK? The UW bookstore has launched "Booklook", an extension of its computerized inventory system, available on UWinfo. Starting from the main menu of UWinfo, you choose "Facilities", then "Bookstore", and then "Booklook", and you'll see a facsimile of the system that's used on the in-store terminals to look up any book by author or title. (Also possible: looking up by course number, in the case of assigned books.) Booklook could save a walk over to South Campus Hall -- although the store would be sorry to lose browsers, we'd think -- and if you find that the book you want is in stock, Booklook will also tell you how much it costs.
