Thursday, November 25, 1993 HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all Americans, and especially those featured in yesterday's Gazette. We note that roast turkey is on the lunch and dinner menu in the Village 1 cafeteria, and yes, staff and faculty (and off-campus students) with Value Plus cards can use them there. TODAY is election day for the student Engineering Society, which is hereby put on notice that the Gazette wants to hear the results of the voting. WE DO HAVE results of the voting earlier this month by students in environmental studies, who were asked to approve the idea of a $45-per-term voluntary fee to support an "endowment foundation" there that would help fund the quality of education. Results were delayed while the votes came in from off-campus and co-op students, and were announced yesterday. Both graduate and undergraduate students approved the proposal by similar ratios: 429 votes to 59 from undergraduates, 78 in favour and 9 opposed from grad students. A CORRECTION: In case anyone was confused, we should note that "cheques" don't arrive from the Ontario Student Assistance Program. OSAP sends "documents" which can be used at a bank to negotiate one's student loan. The "documents" for the second half of fall term loans have now arrived (five weeks late) at the student awards office in Needles Hall -- although there are some people who appealed their original assessment, filled out forms wrong, or quarrelled with the computer, and are still without their money. POSITION AVAILABLE: The personnel department sends the following listing, which was too late to appear in yesterday's Gazette: Secretary to the Dean, Dean of Engineering office, grade USG 6. Extensive secretarial experience in an academic environment. In-depth knowledge of the University's organizational structure. Must be able to demonstrate experience in the administration of policies and procedures. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications (both written and oral) skills. Proven ability to work as a team member. Excellent computer skills, including a strong working knowledge of WordPerfect and experience in spreadsheet packages. Ability to take shorthand would be an asset. For more information call 885-1211 ext. 2524. CRAFTY PEOPLE: For a possible Gazette article, I'd like to hear from people on campus who are making Christmas crafts. Please drop a note to credmond@watserv1.
