Daily Bulletin, Monday, January 16, 1995 UW'S SENATE meets this evening (Needles Hall 3001, 7:30 p.m.) to discuss everything from "integrity in research" to the latest encounter between Ontario's universities and the provincial education minister, Dave Cooke. A report says that Cooke met with the Council of Ontario universities in mid-December and they talked over the prospects for reduced federal funding of higher education. "COU was generally appreciative," says the report, "of the tone and apparent goodwill that Minister Cooke conveyed to the Universities." Also on tonight's agenda: a "state of the faculty" presentation from Brian Hendley, dean of arts -- first in a series of reports to be heard from UW's six faculties. SEEKING A DIRECTOR: An advisory committee has been set up to help find the next "director of the teaching resource office and advisor on continuing education", successor to Gary Griffin. A memo went out Friday from Robin Banks, associate provost (academic affairs), asking for "advice and suggestions", starting with "the mission and activities related to" the two offices bracketed as TRACE, teaching resources and continuing education. The text of Banks's memo can be found on UWinfo under "Documents". Members of the advisory committee, besides Banks, are Jean Andrey of the geography department; David Drewe of the Federation of Students; Sally Haag of classical studies; Don Kasta, administrative director of continuing education; Douglas Mann of philosophy; Raj Pathria of physics; and Frank Zorzitto of pure mathematics. CO-OP STUDENTS will be crowding the halls this morning to see the first posting of spring term jobs, due on the bulletin boards and Student Access at 10 a.m. Later in the day, Students Advising Co-op has its second meeting of the term (Needles Hall 1029, 5:30 p.m.). Says the group's chair, Natalie Proctor: "This is a chance for all those co-op students who've been complaining about co-op to come out and do something constructive about it. No one from Arts, AHS or ES came out to our first meeting, so come out and make sure your faculty is represented." VISITING TOMORROW is Aleida Fitzgerald, a senior program officer at the Canadian International Development Agency. The international programs office has scheduled an open information session from 10:30 to 11:30 in Davis Centre room 1331, says Andrew Barker of the IPO; all are welcome.
