So it's Friday already

The first week of the winter term is winding up. It's the last day of return-to-campus interviews for co-op students who were off on work terms during the fall. It's the first day of late fees for undergraduate students who haven't yet registered (the surcharge starts at $10 and continues to go up at $3 a day). Tonight is Twelfth Night (tomorrow is "Old Christmas").

And it's a birthday for Peter Woolstencroft of the political science department.

No escaping it: FASS is coming

Want to have a big part, a small part, in UW's annual show? Get out tonight for the auditions -- Humanities building room 345, from 7 to 10:30 p.m.

What on earth is FASS? The official answer from the FASS Theatre Company:

FASS is an acronym for Faculty, Alumni, Staff and Students, and is a group of people at the University of Waterloo that puts on an annual musical-comedy show in early February of each year. In addition to being a theatre company, FASS is also a social group, bringing people from all parts of the university together throughout the year.
Producer for 1996 is Adam Parker, acparker@watarts. This year's show is "FASStic Surgery: A Musical Comedy Response to E. R., Chicago Hope, and The Medical Profession at Large". It hits the Humanities Theatre stage February 1, 2 and 3 (performances at 8 p.m. Thursday and Saturday, 7 and 10 p.m. Friday). Tickets are available now from the Humanities box office.

Volleyball action this weekend

"Don't miss the action," says Jennifer McCormick of the athletics department:
This Saturday and Sunday, January 6 and 7, our Athena volleyball team hosts four CIAU volleyball teams in tournament action. The tournament features the Guelph Gryphons, the Brock Badgers, the Laurier Golden Hawks and our own Waterloo Athenas.

All games will be played in the University of Waterloo's PAC Main Gym and all fans are encouraged to come out and show your support. Season ticket holders and UW students receive free entry all weekend while other prices are as follows: Session A, B, C or D $7, Tournament Pass $15, and seniors, children 14 and under are always free.

Here's the schedule for Saturday: Guelph vs. Laurier at 10, UW vs. Brock at 12, Brock vs. Laurier at 2:30, UW vs. Guelph at 4:30. And Sunday: UW vs. Laurier at 10, Guelph vs. Brock at 12, third-place game at 2:30, championship final at 4:30.

Notes from the Federation of Students

And now, a cereal story

"More cereal selection in the Villages, please," somebody asked UW's food services department. Helpful response, as announced in this week's menu flyer: "January 1996 will see Cheerios being offered in the Village residences. Other brands will be investigated with respect to their popularity."
